Is LifeStraw safe?

The LifeStraw won't filter out minerals, viruses, or chemicals, so while it's fairly safeto drink from running water in rivers, brooks, and creeks, it's not a good idea to use the LifeStraw downstream from an industrial plant or in a pool of water in a third world country

Do LifeStraw have an expiration date?

LifeStraw products use hollow-fibre membrane filters to remove contaminants from the water source. No chemicals or moving parts are involved within the filtering process, meaning nothing will expire. If stored in a cool dark place and allowed to dry out between uses, the LifeStraw will last until it reaches capacity.

How long are LifeStraw good for?

If you consume the recommended 3-4 litres of water per day while hiking, LifeStraw will last you for between 250-330 days of hiking. If you're in a rush, there's no need to stop and filter water by the lake. Just scoop your water bottle full, and sip from it as you walk.

  • A straw that the user can insert directly into a container of water or drinking source
  • A flip top bottle containing a 2 stage Lifestraw filter. The users puts contaminated water in the bottle, and sucks through the filter. The water that comes out has removed bacteria and protozoa.
  • A Lifestraw filter and adapter system that contains a top that screws onto most reusable water bottles and allows the user to fill the bottle with contaminated water, suck it through the Lifestraw filter, and consume water without bacteria or protozoa/parasites.
  • The Lifestraw cleans water by filtering bacteria and parasites through tiny pores in the hollow fibres of the filter. Unfortunately, the pores are .2 microns at their smallest and unable to filter out viruses, which can be .01 microns or smaller. Additionally, the Lifestraw, Lifestraw Go, and Lifestraw universal are unable to filter out chemicals and heavy metals as these are also too small to be filtered out.
